The story

A cop in free fall

Max Payne, a burnt-out New York cop consumed by painkillers and alcohol, takes a private security job protecting a wealthy family in Sao Paulo. Everything goes wrong. Rockstar delivers a brutal action thriller built on iconic bullet-time and cinematic direction.

What you get

An intense, ultra-cinematic solo campaign built around the iconic bullet-time and shootdodge. A multiplayer mode existed too, but the campaign is the reason to play.

Why (re)play it in 2026

It is the sharpest gunplay Rockstar has ever put in a game, wrapped in a dark, stylish action-film direction. It still runs on PC and on Xbox through backward compatibility.

Bullet-time has never hit this hard.
