GTA 6 on PS5 Pro: what the Enhanced label actually changes

Sony has officially awarded GTA 6 the PS5 Pro Enhanced label. What that means, what it doesn't guarantee yet, and whether it justifies buying a PS5 Pro before November 19.

There are two questions fans ask before November 19. The first: which console to play on. The second, less obvious: whether the PS5 Pro is worth the premium specifically for GTA 6.

The short answer: yes, GTA 6 will be better on PS5 Pro than on PS5 standard. The longer answer: by exactly how much, and whether that "better" justifies 900 EUR of hardware, depends on what you expect from the game.

What Sony and Rockstar have confirmed

Sony has announced that GTA 6 carries the official PS5 Pro Enhanced label. This label, introduced by Sony with the PS5 Pro launch in November 2024, guarantees that the game has been optimized to take advantage of the console's additional capabilities: higher GPU power, PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) upscaling technology.

In practice, the PS5 Pro Enhanced label means GTA 6 on PS5 Pro will benefit from at least one of the following improvements, per Sony criteria: higher or more stable frame rate, sharper native resolution, or both.

Rockstar has not yet detailed the graphics modes for GTA 6 on PS5 Pro: whether the game will offer a performance mode (FPS priority), a fidelity mode (resolution priority), or a balanced mode. These specifics will likely be communicated closer to launch.

What is not yet confirmed

Several pieces of information are circulating about the PS5 Pro version of GTA 6. None are official as of today.

Will the game reach 60 FPS on PS5 Pro? Not confirmed by Rockstar. Technical analyses from outside sources anticipate that the PS5 Pro will enable stable 60 FPS where PS5 standard runs at 30 FPS, but these are external estimates, not Rockstar announcements.

What resolution target on PS5 Pro? Not communicated. PSSR can allow an image close to native 4K from a lower internal resolution, but Rockstar has not communicated a target.

Will there be a PS5 Pro patch at launch or later? The Enhanced label guarantees optimization, but not necessarily a separate day-one patch. Rockstar could integrate the optimization directly into the launch build.

This page will be updated as soon as Rockstar publishes official technical specs.

PS5 standard vs PS5 Pro for GTA 6

GTA 6 runs on PS5 standard. The PS5 Pro Enhanced label does not mean the game is exclusive to the Pro. It means the Pro delivers a superior visual experience.

The PS5 standard retails around 449 EUR with disc drive. It lets you play GTA 6 in very good conditions. Rockstar's teams worked on PS5 standard as the primary target platform: the game was designed for it.

The PS5 Pro retails at 899.99 EUR (Sony's official price, without disc drive). It does not change the game, the content, the story, or the available activities. It changes how the game is rendered: sharper images, potentially better frame rate, especially during fast driving sequences or the dense open spaces of Leonida.

If you already own a PS5 standard, the justification is difficult: 450 EUR difference for a visual improvement that, on a 1080p TV or in a standard living room setup, will be hard to perceive. On a 4K HDR screen, the gap will be more visible.

PS5 Pro vs Xbox Series X for GTA 6

GTA 6 releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S simultaneously on November 19, 2026. The official price is the same on both platforms.

The difference today: GTA 6 carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label. There is no announced equivalent on the Xbox side. Microsoft does not offer a mid-generation console along the lines of an "Xbox Series X Pro." The Xbox Series X remains the top-end console in Microsoft's current lineup.

In terms of compared performance between PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X on GTA 6: Rockstar has not communicated technical differences between the two versions. On GTA V and RDR2, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions were broadly equivalent. Nothing indicates GTA 6 will be different on this point, outside the specific PS5 Pro optimization.

Recommendation for GTA 6

If you already own a PS5 standard or an Xbox Series X|S: play on your current console. GTA 6 was built for these machines. The experience will be complete.

If you need to choose a console now: the PS5 standard at 449 EUR gives access to GTA 6 from November 19 at Rockstar's target performance level. The PS5 Pro at 899.99 EUR adds a layer of visual quality whose exact scope has not yet been detailed by Rockstar.

If maximum visual quality is a priority: the PS5 Pro is the right choice, but wait for technical breakdowns at launch to measure the real gap before spending 900 EUR.

Does GTA 6 run at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro?+

Rockstar has not yet confirmed frame rate targets for GTA 6 on PS5 Pro. The PS5 Pro Enhanced label guarantees a performance improvement, but the exact figures (30, 60 FPS or modes) have not been officially communicated as of today.
