Pre-order GTA 6 on Xbox Series X: pre-orders are open now

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X and PS5. If you're in the Xbox ecosystem, here's what you need to know to pre-order at the right time, pick the right edition, and understand what the Microsoft platform brings to this title.

Pre-order status

Boxed pre-orders for GTA 6 Xbox Series X are paused at several retailers, including Amazon.fr, since July 27, 2026 (stock status). Digital pre-orders remain open without interruption on the Xbox Store.

Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S for GTA 6?

GTA 6 runs on both current-gen Xbox consoles. The difference matters:

• Xbox Series X (around $499): native 4K with ray tracing, 1 TB NVMe SSD, 4K Blu-ray disc drive. The right choice for GTA 6 at maximum quality, and the only Xbox option for a physical copy.
• Xbox Series S (around $299): renders at 1440p (upscaled to 4K), 512 GB SSD, digital-only. A more accessible price point, but lower visual fidelity and no disc drive. If you plan to buy GTA 6 on disc, the Series S is not an option.

If you're buying physical, the Xbox Series X is your only path on Xbox. Digital buyers can go either way, but the Series X delivers the full next-gen visual experience.

GTA 6 and Xbox Game Pass: the honest answer

The question comes up every time a major title approaches: will GTA 6 be on Game Pass Ultimate at launch?

The short answer: almost certainly not at launch. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have a consistent track record of keeping flagship titles off subscription services at release. GTA 5 only arrived on Game Pass several years after its original launch.

What you need to know:

• No official announcement from Microsoft or Rockstar confirms GTA 6 on Game Pass
• Take-Two has publicly stated its premium titles will not enter subscription services at launch
• Buying the game outright, physical or digital, is the only certain path to playing on November 19, 2026

What GTA 6 brings on Xbox Series X

The Xbox Series X delivers several real technical advantages for GTA 6:

• Native 4K with ray tracing: Vice City at night with real-time reflections on building facades, wet asphalt, and neon signs
• Quick Resume: Microsoft's feature that suspends GTA 6 in the background so you can jump to another game and return exactly where you left off, instantly
• 1 TB NVMe SSD: ultra-fast load times for entering GTA Online or crossing the open world
• Xbox Wireless Controller: haptic rumble triggers on the Series X controller add tactile feedback similar to the PS5 DualSense, present since the Series X launch
• Dolby Atmos and DTS:X: compatible with soundbars and home theater setups for audio immersion beyond stereo TV speakers
• Potential FPS Boost: if Rockstar releases a 60 fps or 120 fps patch, the Series X is the only Xbox console capable of running it at full capacity

Xbox purchases and PC cross-buy

A common question for Xbox players who might move to PC later: GTA 6 has not been confirmed as Xbox Play Anywhere. Buying the Xbox version, physical or digital, will not include access to the PC version.

A PC release is planned for a later window, following Rockstar's established pattern with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. It will be a separate release with a separate purchase.
