Netflix First, YouTube at 3 AM
Netflix holds the exclusive for six hours. The same video lands on Rockstar's own channels, YouTube and the official site, starting 3 AM CEST on August 28. The official name still isn't "Trailer 3": Rockstar delivered on its promise of a longer format than a standard trailer.
A New Face, Raul
Raul shows up for the first time in the game's marketing. Rockstar introduces him as a seasoned bank robber, charming and calculating. In the sequence shown, Jason and Lucia act as his getaway drivers while the police chase them down. Rockstar says nothing more: nothing on his past, nothing on how long he sticks with Jason and Lucia.
Jason and Lucia, Back to Square One
The Extended Look's storyline hangs on a heist gone wrong: Jason and Lucia get arrested, and the rest of the video follows from there. Rockstar shows the arrest as a turning point and doesn't show what comes next.
Combat Changes Gears
Rockstar reworked the combat system in depth compared to GTA V. Press who saw the video point to a Red Dead Redemption 2 influence on the weight of fights, and Max Payne 3 for the shootout staging. You pick weapons up off the ground mid-fight, no menu.
Stealing a Car, Without Breaking a Window
Several new mechanics stand out from the video, confirmed by Rockstar:
- Stealing a vehicle no longer means breaking a window: a slim-jim style tool does it more quietly.
- The AI-controlled partner fires alongside you and takes part in heists and missions, instead of standing back.
- You swap characters mid-mission, including while driving.
- A moral alignment system displays on screen, in the spirit of Red Dead Redemption 2's Honor.
- You change outfits on the fly, through a circular menu close to a weapon wheel.
- Rockstar reworked how vehicles behave: suspension, acceleration, braking. Some getaway vehicles catch fire.
Vice City, 12 Activities Confirmed
The Extended Look widens the list of activities already known: diving, jet-ski, basketball, off-road motorcycle riding, weightlifting, street racing, nightclubs, e-scooters, arcade cabinets, live streaming, boat fishing, rally racing. Phil Collins is on the soundtrack.
The Date Hasn't Moved, November 19, 2026
Take-Two reaffirmed the release date on its August 7, 2026 earnings call. No delay has been announced, not on August 7, not on August 27, not since. The setup doesn't depend on any trailer date. What you prepare now still runs on November 19.
Getting ready before November 19: the setup
You know how this goes. The game lands, you boot it up, and two hours in the stick starts drifting on its own. The drive is full. The borrowed headset flattens the radio into mush. A Rockstar release runs for weeks, not for a weekend: RDR2 and GTA V already proved that. A setup is not something you fix on launch day. You build it before, one piece at a time, without replacing everything. Five items: what you hold, what you hear, where you store, what you see, what you take.
PS5 setup: controller, headset, storage
What you hold: the controller. It takes the whole beating. Chases, shootouts, driving: the triggers absorb thousands of presses per session. A worn controller always announces itself the same way, a stick that moves while your thumb is off it. If yours already survived a full release cycle, treat a second controller as a spare part, not a luxury. Check compatibility with your platform first: PS5 and Xbox Series X share nothing.
What you hear: the headset. GTA is half an audio game. The radio, the conversations in the car, the city talking around you. A decent headset keeps those layers apart. A bad one crushes them into a single mush. Two concrete criteria: comfort over a long session, because you will go past two hours, and a clean connection to your console.
Where you store: the external SSD. A modern open world is heavy, and it grows after launch with updates. The real problem isn't room for GTA 6, it's everything else you'll have to uninstall to make room for it. An external SSD moves your library instead of deleting it. One caveat: on console, external storage doesn't always replace the internal drive for running a current-gen game. Check what your console actually allows before buying.
Xbox Series X setup: the equivalents
Same breakdown, different ecosystem. Compatibility doesn't carry over: a PS5 controller won't work on Xbox Series X, and the reverse is true too. Headsets and external storage follow the same rule, check the connection listed for your console before buying. On the game itself, the Xbox Series X pre-order has been open since June 25.
Screen and comfort: what you see, what you take
What you see: the screen. A Rockstar game is watched as much as it is played. Night, rain, neon: dark scenes expose a panel's limits immediately. Stick to criteria you can verify, the resolution your console supports and the game mode, rather than the marketing numbers printed on the box.
What you take: comfort. Nobody plans a six-hour session. They happen anyway. Chair, seating, screen position: it's the least glamorous item and the first one you hear from the next morning.
